2006
Click-It or Ticket Assessment
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute sponsored a statewide, two-stage telephone
survey of Indiana residents. Stage 1, completed in May, established a baseline of
awareness of Indiana seat belt laws and enforcement campaigns. Stage 2, during
June, will assess the impact of the "Click It or Ticket" media campaign on awareness of
seat belt issues.
CUPE Trail Use Survey
The Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs commissioned
the Survery Research Center to conduct a survey of over 2000 Indiana
residents from Marion County that use the various public trailways
Smokefree Indiana
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI is working with Smokefree Indiana
in an effort to assess attitudes and perceptions toward secondhand smoke
in eight Indiana counties. The SRC will conduct telephone interviews
with at least 600 residents in each county. The instrument was designed
to assess respondents' attitudes toward the effects and dangers of secondhand
smoke as well as tobacco usage in public places, including workplaces.
Lawrence Township Schools
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI worked with the administration of
the MSD Lawrence Township on a telephone survey of 1,000 Lawrence Township
residents. The study was designed to measure citizens' attitudes toward
and support for the Lawrence Township school system and its programs. Citizens
were given the opportunity to grade the school system, as well as offer
suggestions for improvement.
New York City Tax Assistance Survey
Food Change, formerly known as CFRC, commissioned the Survey Research Center
to survey 400 individuals from New York City that had received their assistance
in preparing their taxes for fiscal year 2004.
University of Kentucky Adolescent Survey
The University of Kentucky, sponsored by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and
Family Services, commissioned the Survey Research Center to conduct a survey of
Kentucky adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17 in regard to health issues,
including the use of drugs and alcohol.
Westfield Washington School District Survey
The Survey Research Center completed a telephone survey of 500 adults from the
Westfield Washington School district in regard to educational issues. The sample
was split evenly between parents with children currently attending Westfield
schools and those without.
2005
Administrative Reviews
According to Indiana University policy all administrative officers
and faculty are required to have their performance reviewed on a regular
basis. The Survey Research Center at IUPUI works with review committees
throughout the Indiana University system in designing and administering
administrative evaluations.
Educational Monitoring and Improvement Survey
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI conducted telephone interviews
on behalf of the Indiana State Teachers Association (ISTA). The SRC
conducted interviews with 1,200 Indiana adults regarding the state of
education in Indiana. Topics covered in the survey include ISTEP and
proposed initiatives to improve the quality of teaching in Indiana's
schools.
Indiana Supreme Court's Gender Fairness Survey
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI ailed surveys to approximately
2,000 licensed Indiana attorneys to solicit their experiences and views
with regard to gender issues within the Indiana judicial system. The
Commission will use the results of the survey to prepare recommendations
to the Indiana Supreme Court for improvements to the judicial system.
IUPUI School of Liberal Arts Strategic Planning Survey
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI facilitated a web-survey of the
faculty and staff of the School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI. The resultant
data will be one component used to develop a long-term strategic plan
for the School of Liberal Arts.
Avon Community Schools Survey
The Survey Research Center worked with the Avon Community Schools Board
on a telephone survey of 600 Avon/Washington Township residents. This
survey was designed to get feedback from residents on a variety of issues
effecting the community's schools today, including funding and an expanding
student population.
Elderly Gaming Survey
The SRC was been commissioned to conduct a gaming prevalence study
among Indiana's elderly population. The survey was sponsored by FSSA's
Division of Mental Health and Addiction. Telephone interviews will be
conducted with 1,200 Indiana residents over the age of 59. The purpose
of the research is to estimate gaming prevalence rates for Indiana's
elderly residents.
Assessment of Indiana Criminal Justice Institute's "Click-It or Ticket"
Media Campaign
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute is sponsoring this statewide
telephone survey of Indiana residents. Phase 1 will establish a baseline
of awareness of Indiana seat belt laws and enforcement campaigns. Stage
2, to be completed in June, will assess the impact of the "Click-It
or Ticket" media campaign on awareness of seat belts and other traffic
safety issues.
Assessment of Indiana Criminal Justice Institute's "Serve Kids, Serve
Time" Media Campaign
The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute is sponsoring this telephone
survey of residents in 4 Indiana cities. The survey will assess the
awareness of the "Serve Kids, Serve Time" media campaign in the 4 target
markets (Evansville, Ft. Wayne, Indianapolis, and South Bend/Mishawaka).
2004
ARNOVA Board and Members Survey
The Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary
Action (ARNOVA) worked with the Survey Research Center at IUPUI on a
telephone survey of members of ARNOVA's board and a web survey of current
and former association members. The surveys were designed to solicit
ideas from constituents regarding the future direction of the organization.
Brownsburg Public Library
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI was commissioned by the Brownsburg
Public Library to conduct 600 telephone interviews with residents of
Brownsburg, Indiana regarding the services offered by the local library.
The study was designed to measure the residents' knowledge of their
library's services, as well as to evaluate the current programs and
services offered by the library.
Health Advantage Study
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI is working with the Marion County
Health and Hospital Corporation to conduct a survey of one thousand
participants in the Wishard Advantage health care program. Eight hundred
participants will be contacted for this study, which is designed to
assess participants' access to health services, current health status,
and risk factors for health problems.
Health-Related Philanthropy Survey
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI conducted a telephone survey on
behalf of the Indiana University Center for Bioethics. Survey Research
Center at IUPUI interviewers conducted interviews with 1,000 Indiana
residents regarding philanthropic giving, volunteerism, and organ donation.
The purpose of the study was to gain a better understanding of the motivations
for giving, volunteering, and organ donation.
Impaired Driving Survey
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI worked in conjunction with the
Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) in administering a state-wide
survey designed to capture Indiana residents' awareness and impressions
of ICJI sponsored advertising and initiatives related to impaired and
dangerous driving.
IUPUI Residence Life Survey
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI conducted telephone interviews
with current IUPUI students. The purpose of the interviews was to determine
what factors students consider in making housing choices, as well as
students' awareness of the new apartment-style student housing available
on the IUPUI campus.
Marriage Survey
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI worked with representatives from
the Marriage Institute and the Hudson Institute in conducting a survey
of 1,000 Indiana residents. The purpose of the study was to understand
the attitudes, behavior, and opinions of Indiana's residents regarding
familial relationships including the issues of marriage and divorce.
Media Specialists Survey
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI worked conducted a mail survey
on behalf of the Association of Indiana Media Educators (AIME). The
survey was mailed to all certified school media specialists in Indiana
and was designed to evaluate current programs and practices in Indiana's
school libraries.
Review of IUPUI Vice Chancellor Mark Brenner
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI is working with representatives
of IUPUI to conduct a university-mandated performance review of Vice
Chancellor Mark Brenner. This mail survey focuses on many aspects of
the Vice Chancellor's performance over the past four years.
School-Based Clinics Study
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI is working with the Bowen Center
on a survey of parents of children who have received care at school
clinics. The study is focused on measuring the children's general health
and the parents' satisfaction with the care their children are receiving
from the school based clinics.
Shank Public Relations
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI is working with Shank Public Relations
by conducting a series of telephone interviews.
Smokefree Indiana
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI worked with Smokefree Indiana in
an effort to assess attitudes and perceptions toward secondhand smoke
in 8 Central Indiana counties. The SRC conducted telephone interviews
with at least 600 residents in each county. The instrument was designed
to assess respondents' attitudes toward the effects and dangers of secondhand
smoke as well as tobacco usage in public places, including workplaces.
SYNAR Survey
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI is working with the Indiana Family
and Social Services Administration's Division of Mental Health and Addiction
in assessing compliance with Indiana tobacco laws by tobacco retailers
throughout the State of Indiana.
Youth Gaming
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI conducted 811 interviews with Indiana
teens, ages 12 to 20, for the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration's
Division of Mental Health and Addiction. The purpose of the study was
to estimate the prevalence of illegal gaming activities among Indiana's
youths.
2003
ARNOVA Publications Portfolio Survey
The Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary
Action (ARNOVA) worked with the Survey Research Center at IUPUI on a
mail study of ARNOVA members designed to determine which direction its
publishing activities should take in the future and the formats that
members prefer to receive information in. To date, 179 ARNOVA members
from across America and from as far away as the United Kingdom have
returned completed questionnaires.
Central Indiana Household Study
This statewide survey, commissioned by the Center for Urban Policy
and the Environment, consisted of approximately 3,200 telephone interviews
with Indiana residents. This broad planning and assessment survey addressed
quality of life and community strength issues including health, safety,
local social and public services, and social problems affecting Indiana
communities.

Community Service Council of Monroe County
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI worked with the Community Service
Council of Monroe County, Indiana on a research project designed to
assess community needs for social services. Two hundred telephone interviews
were conducted with residents of Monroe County. The Monroe County Household
Assessment instrument was designed to assess households' needs in areas
such as employment, health care, housing, and education.
Gambling Survey
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI worked in conjunction with the
Indiana Criminal Justice Institute in administering a state-wide survey
designed to capture the prevalence of gambling activities and gambling
problems in the State of Indiana. The project will consisted of 400
telephone interviews with Indiana residents.
Glenbard Township High School District 87 Assessment
The SRC conducted telephone interviews with 1,000 residents of Glenbard
Township High School District 87 (DuPage County, Illinois). The survey
addressed curriculum, budget, and transportation issues within the school
district.
Goshen College Survey
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI worked with Goshen College on a
mail survey of alumni and Mennonite Church leaders. The project consisted
of 1,700 alumni questionnaires and 250 church leader questionnaires.
Hamilton Southeastern Schools Study
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI worked with Hamilton Southeastern
Schools on a telephone survey of 1,300 Hamilton County residents. This
survey was aimed at a variety of issues, including whether to build
a new high school or expand the existing schools to accommodate projected
growth of the student population in the coming years.
Health and Hospital Corporation's Health Advantage Study
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI worked with the Marion County Health
and Hospital Corporation to conduct a survey of participants in the
Wishard Advantage health care program. Eight hundred participants were
contacted for this study, which was designed to assess participants'
access to health services, current health status, and risk factors for
health problems.
Indiana Association of Rehabilitation Facilities (INARF) Study
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI worked in collaboration with Crowe
Chizek, LLC to perform an independent study of the economic benefits
of a portion of Indiana's State Use Program (janitorial services and
food products purchases). The information gathered during the course
of the study assisted INARF in strategic planning and in promoting the
benefits of the program. The goal of the research is to answer the following
question: What does the State Use Program do for the economy of the
State of Indiana? In all, 250 questionnaires were distributed to providers
in the State Use Program.
Indiana Coordinated State Coverage Survey
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI worked in conjunction with the
State Health Access Data Assistance Center (SHADAC) in administering
a state-wide survey designed to capture the overall level of insurance
coverage in the State of Indiana. The research design was similar to
studies that have been conducted in several other states (Alabama, Colorado,
Connecticut, Georgia, Maine, Minnesota and others). In all, the project
resulted in 10,000 telephone interviews with Indiana residents.
IUPUI Jaguars Fan Survey
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI worked with the IUPUI Office of
Communications and Marketing on face-to-face interviews with attendees
of IUPUI Jaguars basketball games. The survey was designed to aid the
Office of Communications and Marketing in developing a cohesive marketing
plan.
IUPUI Jaguars License Plate Study
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI worked with the IUPUI Office of
Communications and Marketing on a telephone survey of current students
and IUPUI Alumni. The study focused on measuring awareness of and attitudes
toward IUPUI's special recognition license plate issued by the Indiana
Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI was commissioned by the Plainfield-Guilford
Township Public Library to conduct 400 telephone interviews with residents
of Plainfield or Guilford Township, Indiana regarding the services offered
by the local library. The study was designed to measure the rates of
usage among Plainfield and Guilford Township residents, as well as to
serve as an assessment of the services the library currently offers.

by conducting a series of telephone interviews.
Tobacco Smart Indiana
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI worked with Tobacco Smart Indiana
and the Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County in an effort
to assess attitudes and perceptions toward secondhand smoke in Marion
County. The SRC conducted telephone interviews with 701 self-identified
registered voters in Marion County, Indiana. The instrument was designed
to assess respondents' attitudes toward secondhand smoke and its dangers,
as well as to gauge support for proposed policies aimed at limiting
exposure to secondhand smoke in public places.
Transportation Survey
The Indiana Department of Transportation commissioned a statewide telephone
survey of 1,100 residents. The study, completed in May, addressed commuting,
highway and transportation issues, residents' satisfaction with the
Department's performance, and opinions regarding the importance of various
transportation issues for which INDOT is responsible.
2002
Click - It or Ticket Advertising Awareness Study
In October of 2001 we conducted 1,200 telephone interviews with respondents
who reside or commute to work in Marion County. The purpose of this
study is to assess seat belt usage and raise awareness by educating
the public on safety belt and child restraint issues. The study will
also serve as a baseline measurement of the awareness of the Click-it
or Ticket media campaign being conducted by the Governor's Council on
Impaired and Dangerous Driving.
Columbus Parks
In April of 2002 respondents living in Bartholomew County were contacted
by telephone on behalf of Columbus Parks and Recreation to see how they
felt about their local parks and recreation facilities. Questions about
what could be done to improve these facilities were also asked of each
respondent.
Equity in the Courts Survey
The Indiana Commission on Race and Gender Fairness provided the Indiana
University Survey Research Center at IUPUI with a state-wide listing
of 398 judicial officers. The study measured race and gender fairness
and discrimination in Indiana courts.
Indian-American Water Company
This study was designed to assess residents' perceptions of the water
quality in Newburgh, Indiana. The study was designed to allow residents
to evaluate the water quality as they currently perceive it. We also
sought to determine the prevalence of home-based water softening equipment
and the desire for plant-based universal water softening.
Indiana Campus Compact 2002
Telephone survey of 821 Indiana residents designed to gauge their opinions
of colleges and universities, as well as their involvement in community
service and service learning. This research was the follow-up to the
baseline Campus Compact study conducted in 2000.
Indiana State Department of Health Diabetes Survey
In May and September of 2002, we conducted telephone surveys with at
least 800 residents of the following Indiana counties: Madison County,
St. Joseph County, Howard County, and Elkhart County. The study was
designed to assess residents' awareness of diabetes risk factors. The
studies include questions concerning diet, exercise, health assessment,
and other diabetes related health issues.
Marion and Mississinewa Elections Study
Telephone survey of self-identified registered voters in Marion, Jonesboro,
and Gas City, IN regarding the 2002 Marion and Mississinewa school board
elections. The polls were commissioned by the Marion Chronicle-Tribune.
Safety Belt and Child Restraint Survey
This was the second round of an ongoing study to assess seat belt usage
and raise awareness by educating the public on safety belt and child
restraint issues. We contacted 400 respondents who were between the
ages of 18 and 40 who also had a child less than 1 year of age. The
study will also serve as a baseline measurement of the awareness of
the Click-it or Ticket media campaign being conducted by the Governor's
Council on Impaired and Dangerous Driving.
Safety Belt and Child Restraint Survey - 2-
This was the third round of an ongoing study to assess seat belt usage
and raise awareness by educating the public on safety belt and child
restraint issues. We contacted 1000 respondents from the general population
and an oversample of 800 African-American respondents. The study will
also serve as a baseline measurement of the awareness of the "Click
it, or Ticket" media campaign being conducted by the Governor's
Council on Impaired and Dangerous Driving.
WISH-TV Poll
In September 2002, the Survey Research Center at IUPUI conducted a
poll of self-identified registered voters for the new Indiana Seventh
Congressional District, on behalf of WISH-TV in Indianapolis. Later
in the election season, the SRC conducted polls for both the 7th Congressional
District race, as well as the race for Marion County Sheriff.
WNDU/Elkhart Truth
In October 2002, the Survey Research Center at IUPUI conducted a poll
of self-identified registered voters for the new Indiana Second Congressional
District, on behalf of WNDU-TV (South Bend) and the Elkhart Truth.
2001
2001 Giving USA
This project was collaboration between the SRC and the Indiana University
Center on Philanthropy. The SRC is collecting data from not-for-profit
organizations nation-wide. Giving USA is the leading annual source for
information on the nation's charitable giving.
Boone County Health Survey
The Boone County Health Department and Witham Health Services contacted
the Indiana University Survey Research Center at IUPUI this spring regarding
the implementation of survey research to find out how many citizens
in Boone County have access to health care and if so, what services
they are currently receiving. In addition the survey sought out to find
the most urgent needs of residents, and where most of the residents
in need live. The study consisted of 750 completes.
Diabetes Prevalence Survey
In April of 2001, we conducted a telephone study of 500 African-Americans
in Marion County to assess their awareness of the diabetes risk factors.
The study included questions concerning diet, exercise, health assessment,
and other health related issues.
Hamilton County Parks Survey
Respondents living in Hamilton County were contacted by telephone to
see how they felt about their local parks and recreation facilities,
and what could be done to improve these facilities.
Indiana Anti-Tobacco Media Survey
The Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Agency has asked us to
conduct a survey to help evaluate the anti-tobacco media program for
young people in our state. 600 children ages 12 to 17 and 600 adults
over the age of 18 were surveyed. In addition to the general population,
the P.O.L. conducted an over sample of 200 Hispanic and 200 African-American
respondents.
Indiana Judiciary Weighted Caseload Study
The SRC conducted secondary data collection for the Judicial Administration
Committee of the Judicial Conference of Indiana. The SRC assisted the
Committee in conducting a weighted caseload evaluation in the State
of Indiana. The weighted caseload system was developed by the Committee
in 1997 and used by the Supreme Court of Indiana in 1999 to develop
local judicial caseload plans. The research was designed to determine
the need for additional judgeships, as well as to help local jurisdictions
evaluate their allocation of workload.
IUPUI POLL 2001
The Public Opinion Lab conducted a statewide poll of over 600 registered
voters. Respondent's attitudes were measured concerning Indiana's property
tax increase and budget shortfall.
Knozone Campaign Awareness Survey
A telephone survey of 600 residents living in Central Indiana was conducted
in July. The project was designed to ascertain the awareness of air
quality issues-specifically the ozone pollution problem-and awareness
of certain advertising that had been undertaken in the previous year.
Marion County Health Assessment Survey
The SRC has collected data on behalf of the Health and Hospital Corporation
of Marion County, Indiana. The SRC conducted approximately 3,200 interviews
with Marion County residents in order to discern what health problems
exist in various neighborhoods throughout the County, as well as citizens
overall health awareness. In addition to the 3,200 completed interviews
with the general population, we conducted an over-sample of 300 Hispanic
residents.
2000
Human Capital Development in Hendricks County Indiana
In June, interviewers at the SRC conducted 409 employers located in
Hendricks County Indiana. The research was conducted on behalf of the
White Lick Heritage Community Foundation of Hendricks County. The research
was aimed at establishing the need for a Lifelong Learning Center in
Hendricks County, which would provide job skills enrichment and other
learning opportunities to the Hendricks County work force.
Campus Compact-Support for Higher Education in Indiana
Telephone survey of 811 Indiana residents designed to gauge their opinions
of colleges and universities, as well as their involvement in community
service and service learning.
Central Indiana Survey of Households
Telephone survey of 6,400 adults in Central Indiana. The project was
designed to gather residents' perceptions of the quality of life in
their communities. Residents were asked about problems in their communities,
quality of services, and opportunities for a good life.
Citizens' Attitudes Towards the BMV
The SRC conducted a telephone survey of 413 residents from Marion,
Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Shelby, Johnson, Morgan and Hendricks counties.
The survey was conducted for WISH-TV Channel 8 in Indianapolis, and
measured residents' opinions on the Bureau of Motor Vehicles in Indiana.
Citizens' Trust in Courts in the United States
The National Center for State Courts commissioned the SRC to conduct
research concerning the public's perceptions of the United States court
system. From March to May 2000, the SRC conducted interviews with 1,000
randomly selected respondents in the U.S. as well as over samples of
300 African-Americans and 250 Hispanic-Americans. The main goal of the
research was to evaluate the experience people had with courts of all
types and their perceptions of how they were treated by the court system,
court personnel, and judicial officers.
Community Economic Development Profile
Telephone survey being conducted on behalf of the Indiana Association
for Community and Economic Development and The Indiana Coalition on
Housing and Homeless Issues. The purpose of the study is to gather data,
state-wide, which will be used as a tool to increase awareness and support
of the nonprofit industry in Indiana.
Election Studies
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI conducted surveys on behalf of
many media outlets during the 2000 election season. Most notable were
the three election polls the SRC conducted on behalf of WISH-TV, Indianapolis.
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI also conducted an election poll
on behalf of WNDU-TV South Bend and the The Elkhart Truth.
Indiana Gives
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI conducted interviews with 800 Indiana
residents on behalf of the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy.
The purpose of the study was to assess the patterns of charitable donation,
as well as giving habits, giving frequency, methods of donation, and
volunteer activities among Indiana residents. The study also was designed
to test the effects of different survey modalities and incentives on
response rates.
Indiana Residents' Opinions and Attitudes Toward Nursing Homes and
Nursing Home Care
In May and June the SRC again conducted research on behalf of the Indiana
Health Care Association designed to assess the public's perceptions
of and attitudes toward nursing homes. The SRC conducted 408 interviews
with residents of nine Indiana counties: Allen, Clark, Howard, Lake,
Marion, St. Joseph, Tippecanoe, Vanderburgh, and Vigo.
Internet Penetration and the Demand for On-Line Health Care Services
Telephone survey of 407 Madison County residents designed to measure
internet penetration and how residents utilize the internet in terms
of health care issues. The survey was conducted on behalf of St. John's
Health Systems.
Investors' Opinions and Attitudes Toward Financial Service Providers
Telephone survey of 908 investors in five states. The study was designed
to assess investors' awareness of financial services and markets. In
addition, the survey gauged investors' attitudes in regard to financial
services decision making.
Jury Reform
A telephone survey of 1,012 citizens statewide (including an oversample
of 202 African-Americans), as well as a mail survey sent to: 1) 243
sitting judges who deal with jury trials in the state, and 2) A sample
of attorneys provided by the Indiana State Bar Association. The survey
dealt with individuals' opinions on jury reform and their experiences
with juries. The survey was conducted on behalf of The Indiana Judicial
Conference and The Indiana State Legislature.
Legal Job Satisfaction Survey
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI surveyed 311 members of the legal
community in Indiana on behalf of Indiana Lawyer and the Indiana State
Bar Association. The research was designed to evaluate the condition
of the legal profession in Indiana. Specifically, the questionnaire
focused on legal professionals' general satisfaction with their careers,
job-related pressures, and areas in which the legal profession in Indiana
can be improved.
Perceptions of Lawrence Township schools
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI conducted interviews with 1,010
residents of Lawrence Township in Indianapolis. The study was designed
to measure citizens' attitudes toward and support for the Lawrence Township
school system and its programs. Citizens were also given the opportunity
to grade the school system, as well as offer suggestions for improvement.
Perceptions and Opinions of Possible Transportation Improvements in
the Indianapolis Region
In May, the SRC again conducted research on behalf of the Indianapolis
Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). The SRC conducted 1,129 interviews
with residents of five central Indiana counties: Hamilton, Hancock,
Hendricks, Marion, and Johnson. The MPO is engaging in a twenty-five
year plan improve the traffic and transportation situation in Central
Indiana. The goal of this research was to both gauge the public's support
of for different transportation solutions, as well as support for the
financing options available for these improvements.
Philanthropic Giving Index
The Survey Research Center at IUPUI collaborated with the Indiana University
Center on Philanthropy on this project as well. The SRC collected the
data for this important research. The Philanthropic Giving Index is
conducted be-annually by the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy.
The Index is designed to measure attitudes about the philanthropic giving
climate and reveal current trends and future expectations in American
philanthropic giving.
Polis Congregations
Telephone survey with 400 completes among Indiana Congregations regarding
their community and outreach programs.
Visitation Reform
A mail survey, consisting of surveys sent to three different groups
of professionals who deal with visitation and custody issues: 251 family
law judges, 359 members of the Family Law State Bar Association, and
118 psychologists who deal with custody matters. The survey explored
opinions on reform and modifications within visitation/custody cases,
both on a local and state level. The survey was conducted on behalf
of The Indiana Judicial Conference and The Indiana State Legislature.
1999
Campaign Finance Reform-Indiana
Telephone survey of 838 residents, with 300 of these respondents having
completed the first wave of the study in 1998. The survey was designed
to measure citizen interest and potential action in regard to campaign
finance reform at the state level.
Hamilton Southeastern Schools
Telephone survey of 457 residents with children as well as 366 residents
without children. Investigated residents' opinions on the best way to
handle the current and projected growth of the high school student population
in the Hamilton Southeastern School District.
Indianapolis City Services
Telephone survey of 1,085 Marion County residents regarding the organization
and administration of public safety services, the organization and cost
of delivery of public education and support for improvements in infrastructure,
property taxes and Unigov.
Indianapolis Fire Department
Telephone survey of 1,010 Indianapolis residents. The survey measured
public opinion toward current and future fire department services. Specifically,
respondents were asked about the importance of specific services, their
perceptions of the IFD, and support for revenue enhancing options.
Indianapolis Mayoral Election
Series of interviews conducted for WISH-TV with Indianapolis residents
in regard to their potential voting behavior in the 1999 mayoral election.
Jewish Federation
Mail survey of 946 members of the Jewish Federation, primarily those
ages 55 and over. The study identified members' needs in terms of health
care, transportation, housing, and other issues.
Keep Indianapolis Beautiful-Neighborhoods
Telephone survey of 377 neighborhood residents, as well as 89 residents
who lived outside the neighborhood. The study gauged residents' opinions
about their neighborhood, their quality of life, and their safety. This
particular survey was a follow up to research conducted before Keep
Indianapolis Beautiful made improvements in the neighborhood.
Latinos/Hispanics in Indianapolis
379 telephone interviews and 229 face-to-face interviews completed
with Hispanics and Latinos in Indianapolis. Completed in December of
1999 and January 2000, it gives the first comprehensive picture of this
population in terms of their demographic characteristics, assets to
the community, and main problems they feel they face living in Indianapolis.
Legal Services
Telephone survey of 600 low income Indiana residents regarding their
needs in terms of legal services. Specifically, the research was designed
to measure the attitudes, behaviors, and opinions of these residents
in terms of family law issues, housing issues, government benefits,
medical assistance, credit and purchasing problems, and employment.
Knozone
Telephone survey of 611 respondents, including both Marion County residents
and commuters to Marion County. The project was designed to ascertain
the awareness of air quality issues-specifically the ozone pollution
problem-and awareness of certain advertising that had been undertaken
in the previous year.
Plainfield Public Library
Telephone survey of 409 residents of Plainfield regarding their use
and opinions of the Plainfield Public Library.
Tri-County Residents' Opinions on Education in the Public Schools-South
Carolina
Telephone survey of 1,012 residents of Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester
counties in South Carolina. The main goals of the research were to determine
residents' evaluations of and ideas for the Tri-County schools.
Youth Gambling
Telephone survey of 1,404 youths in Indiana regarding their participation
and frequency in a variety of gambling activities. The results were
included in the December 1999 report to the governor on the Social,
Fiscal, and Economic Impacts of Legalized Gambling in Indiana
